Methodology: how we calculate your net salary in Brazil

This page explains what our calculators do, where the figures come from, how we keep them current and what the estimate does not cover. It is the site's editorial policy.

What the calculators compute

  • INSS: the employee contribution, applied bracket by bracket up to the contribution ceiling.
  • IRPF withholding: the monthly table after the INSS deduction, dependants and the simplified discount when it is more favourable.
  • CLT entitlements: 13th salary, vacation pay with the one-third bonus, FGTS deposits, overtime, night-shift premium and termination amounts.

All calculations run in your browser: nothing you enter is sent or stored.

Our sources

  • Receita Federal: IRPF withholding tables and rules.
  • INSS: contribution brackets and ceiling.
  • Planalto: the CLT and the laws that set each entitlement.
  • Caixa: FGTS rules.

Updates

  • INSS brackets and the minimum wage are reviewed every January, when the new values are published.
  • IRPF tables are reviewed whenever the government changes them.
  • Every page shows, at the top and the bottom, the real date of its last change.

Limits of the estimate

Our calculators give an estimate for guidance only. Your payslip depends on your employment contract, collective agreement and any benefits or deductions specific to your employer. If in doubt, the official calculation by your employer or the tax authority prevails.
